Nenagh is the county town of North Tipperary — a busy, well-established market town with a strong sense of community identity, a distinctive medieval heritage anchored by the iconic round tower keep of Nenagh Castle, and a wide rural catchment that stretches across the North Tipperary landscape from the shores of Lough Derg in the west to the Slieve Bloom foothills in the east. As the main service town for a large part of North Tipperary, Nenagh draws homeowners, farmers and property owners from a wide surrounding area — and its roofing market reflects the full diversity of that catchment.
At Doherty Roofing, we provide professional roofing services to homeowners and property owners across Nenagh and the wider North Tipperary area. Based in Limerick — just 35 kilometres from Nenagh town — we are genuinely better positioned to serve North Tipperary quickly and reliably than many roofing contractors based in the south of the county, who face a significantly longer journey from Clonmel or Tipperary Town to a job in Nenagh than we do from Limerick.
Whether you need an urgent repair, a full roof replacement, chimney work, guttering or a professional roof clean, Jim and his team will travel to your Nenagh property and deliver the honest, reliable service that has built Doherty Roofing's reputation across Limerick and the Midwest.
We are fully insured and Safe Pass certified, and we provide free, no-obligation quotes on all roofing work in Nenagh. There are no call-out fees and no pressure to proceed.

Yes. Natural slate repair and re-slating is one of our core specialisms. We source matching slates and carry out all associated ridge, chimney and flashing work to a high standard on older town and rural properties throughout the Nenagh area.
The most common issues we find on Nenagh's older estate properties are failed or failing ridge tile mortar — accelerated by North Tipperary's freeze-thaw winter cycles — deteriorating original underlay, corroded original fixings and rotten fascia boards behind the guttering. These issues develop gradually and are often not apparent until a significant rain event exposes the underlying vulnerability. A free professional inspection is the best way to understand where your specific roof stands.

We cover Nenagh town and all of the surrounding North Tipperary catchment — including the Lough Derg shore communities of Portroe and Dromineer, the market towns of Borrisokane and Cloughjordan, and the rural townlands throughout the wider area. Older Town Centre Properties
The older streets of Nenagh town — the areas closest to Nenagh Castle, the main street and the established residential streets of the historic core — contain a significant volume of period properties. Victorian-era terraced houses, older semi-detached homes and period commercial buildings in this part of town are typically roofed with natural slate, feature traditional lime-mortared chimney stacks and carry roofing details that require a roofer with genuine experience in older property work. Matching natural slate, repointing chimney stacks with appropriate mortar and carrying out lead flashing repairs correctly are all areas where genuine skill makes a real difference to the longevity of the work.
Established Housing Estates
Nenagh expanded significantly from the 1960s through the 1990s, with large residential estates developing on all sides of the town. These properties — predominantly concrete interlocking tile roofs on semi-detached and detached homes — are now between thirty and sixty years old. This is the age at which ridge mortar repointing, underlay assessment and in some cases full re-roofing are increasingly necessary. The freeze-thaw cycles that characterise North Tipperary winters accelerate the deterioration of ridge mortar on properties of this age, making Nenagh's older estate housing some of the most in need of regular professional inspection and maintenance across the region.
Rural Farmhouses & Agricultural Properties
The rural townlands surrounding Nenagh contain a wide variety of older and newer rural properties. Traditional North Tipperary farmhouses — many with natural slate roofs and exposed chimney stacks built to withstand the North Tipperary climate — sit alongside more recently built rural bungalows and two-storey homes. Agricultural outbuildings, sheds and farm structures throughout the North Tipperary catchment all present regular roofing requirements that Doherty Roofing is well placed to serve from our Limerick base.
Lough Derg Shore Properties
The communities along the eastern shore of Lough Derg — from Portroe and Dromineer south towards Ballina and the Killaloe area — fall within Nenagh's natural service catchment. These lakeshore properties face the same elevated moisture exposure from the lake surface and wind funnelling effects that we have already described in our Killaloe page — and they deserve a roofer who understands the specific demands of the lakeside environment rather than treating them as standard inland properties.
