When rain is driven horizontally against the roof surface by strong winds, it is forced against the uphill side of the skylight flashing and frame under pressure — exploiting any weakness in the seal or flashing that would not be apparent in normal rainfall. This pattern typically indicates a flashing fault or frame seal failure on the windward side of the skylight rather than a glazing unit failure.
If moisture appears on the interior glass surface and is present regardless of whether it is raining outside — particularly in cold weather — it is most likely condensation rather than a genuine leak. If water appears during or after rainfall and tracks down the reveal or drips from the frame, it is a genuine leak.
