Your chimney is one of the most exposed and vulnerable parts of your home. Perched at the highest point of your roof, it endures constant battering from wind, rain, frost and the heat and moisture produced by your fire or stove. Over time, even a well-built chimney will show signs of wear — and when it does, prompt action is essential.
At Doherty Roofing, we carry out professional chimney repairs for homeowners across Limerick, Clare and Tipperary. Whether you have noticed cracked mortar, a damp patch on an internal wall, a damaged chimney pot or loose flashing around the base of your stack, Jim and his team will diagnose the problem accurately and carry out a lasting repair that protects your home for years to come.
We offer free, no-obligation quotes on all chimney repair work and are fully insured and Safe Pass certified. There are no call-out fees and no pressure — just honest, professional advice from a local roofer who knows what he is doing.

This depends on the extent of the deterioration. If the mortar has weathered but the brickwork is still structurally sound, repointing is usually sufficient. If the bricks themselves have cracked or the stack has shifted or leaned, more extensive structural repair may be needed. Jim will assess your chimney and give you an honest recommendation.
Yes — this is one of the most common causes of unexplained damp in Irish homes. Water penetrating a deteriorated chimney stack can travel down internal walls and appear as damp patches in upstairs bedrooms or on chimney breast walls. If you have persistent damp near your chimney, it is worth having the chimney inspected before spending money on internal damp treatments.
The cost varies depending on the type and extent of the repair required. Simple repointing is significantly less expensive than a full chimney stack rebuild. Doherty Roofing provides free, detailed quotes so you will always know the cost before any work begins. There are no hidden charges.
For many standard chimney repairs, we can work safely from the roof using appropriate access equipment. Where the height or nature of the work requires scaffolding, we will advise you of this as part of your free quote.
Yes. Doherty Roofing is fully insured with public liability cover and our team are Safe Pass certified. We are happy to confirm our insurance details on request.
Many homeowners put off chimney repairs because the damage is out of sight — and out of sight can quickly mean out of mind. However, a chimney that is left in poor condition can cause serious and costly problems throughout your home.
Water is the primary enemy of any chimney. When mortar joints crack or pointing deteriorates, rainwater penetrates the masonry and works its way into the structure of your chimney. From there, it can travel into the internal walls of your home, causing damp patches, staining, peeling wallpaper and mould growth that is often mistaken for a rising damp problem.
Damaged flashing — the lead or metal seal between your chimney stack and the roof surface — is another common source of water ingress. When flashing lifts, corrodes or pulls away from the masonry, water pours directly into the roof space and can cause significant damage to rafters, insulation and ceilings below.
In short, a chimney repair that costs a few hundred euro today could save you several thousand in structural remediation down the line. If you have noticed any of the warning signs listed below, do not delay in getting it looked at.
